Frans Schrofer was born into a family of artists and furniture designers, his brother, Jurriaan Schrofer, was a renowned graphic designer and founder of Total Design, and his uncle Jan Schröfer, the co-founder of the furniture manufacturing firm de Cirkel Groep (that merged with Ahrend in the 1950s).

At an early age, Frans Schrofer was taught to value simplicity, practicality, candor, and resourcefulness. His early training in mechanics and electrical engineering provided the technical foundation for his furniture designs. The Design Academy Eindhoven (1983) taught Frans that materials, shape, colors, and texture can affect consumers. These family values continue to shine throughout Frans’ designs and that of Studio Schrofer’s.
